Aboriginal Family Led Decision Making

Aboriginal Family Led Decision Making Program, is a culturally respectful process that allows Aboriginal Families and Aboriginal Communities to have a voice in making decisions for their children, in relation to Child Protection matters.

AFLDM is an approach to planning that is:

  • Guided by cultural tradition involving family meetings with the support of Elders and respected persons within the local community.
  • Based on a partnership between Child Protection and the Aboriginal Community
  • Inclusive and empowering of members of the child and young person’s family and community.
  • It’s primary goal; the safety, development and well being of Aboriginal children and young people involved with the Child Protection and out of home care system.
