YARNING ABOUT FAMILY GROUP

The purpose of Yarning About Family Group is to provide a culturally appropriate and safe space for community to come together and yarn up about all things family. This Yarning Group is a safe place for local Aboriginal families to connect and yarn up. The values and outcomes we strive for:

  • Community involvement and consultation to ensure community has a voice in goals and objectives of our Yarning group
  • Family social and emotional wellbeing is our focus
  • Acknowledgement of each person and family member is a valued member of our group
  • Delivery of Parenting tools and strategies that support our families to achieve their goals – (Tuning Into Kids and Teens Program, Bringing Up Great Kids Program)
  • Engagement of Local services and support networks to support our families learn and engage in essential supports and services (Maternal Child Health Nurse, KESO’s)
  • Provision of Culturally appropriate and informed activities to maintain cultural strength, connection and learning.
  • Carers / parents and loved ones are supported to achieve their parenting / caring goals
  • A safe and non-judgemental space to yarn up with other families, supports and the facilitator about all things family
  • Confidentiality and privacy always respected

Our families meet in Drouin Tuesdays 10.30am – 12.30pm throughout the school term. We provide the tucker, cuppas, learning, support, craft activities and the fun. For any questions please call Wanjana Lidj 51 204 300


BAW BAW BOORAIS PLAYGROUP

The purpose of Baw Baw Boorais Playgroup is to further increase our Aboriginal Families access to a culturally appropriate early learning space. We aim to provide a child safe and interactive environment for Aboriginal Families to come and learn through play, singing, craft, activities and stories. The goal is to engage all family members in learning and connection through play. The values and outcomes we strive for:

  • Learn and connect through play with our Boorais
  • Family social and emotional wellbeing and connection is our focus
  • Through play and engagement our families stay strong and connected with each other and their Boorais
  • A safe and non-judgemental space to yarn up and play with other families
  • Confidentiality and privacy always respected
  • Provision of Culturally appropriate and informed activities to maintain cultural strength, connection and learning.
  • Acknowledgement of each person and family member is a valued member of our playgroup
