"To reach a state of complete physical, mental and social well being, an individual or group must be able to realise aspirations, to satisfy needs, and to change or cope with the environment. Health is, therefore, seen as a resource for everyday life, not the objective of living. Health is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources as well as physical capacities” - World Health Organization, 1986
Ramahyuck delivers a range of services aimed at building support for the social and emotional wellbeing of the Indigenous community. Our goal in this area is to provide a range of complementary social and emotional support services in order to support a holistic model of care.
These services include programs in the areas of spiritual wellbeing, childcare, falls prevention, drug and alcohol abuse, youth development, family restoration and support, parenting and young girls.
An important part of our social and emotional wellbeing programs is our work in supporting and strengthening families. Our Family Support Programs aim to improve support provided to families experiencing issues relating to violence, substance abuse, financial difficulties, legal and parenting issues.
Ramahyuck and its partners provide a wide range of quality services to Indigenous youth and young people across the wider Gippsland region.
Our programs for youth and young people focus on developing skills and boosting confidence and self esteem. They achieve this through providing mentoring, guidance and support, and importantly, drawing on the skills and experience of our elders to help strengthen cultural, community and family links.
Programs such as the Djillay Lidj Best Start Program and the Koori Girls Program demonstrate the positive outcomes stemming from Ramahyuck’s active support for the development of young people in the community.
